Andrew Smith, M.D., Ph.D., is an abdominal radiologist and oncologic imager at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He serves as vice chair of Clinical Research, chief of Body CT, and director of Artificial Intelligence, Tumor Metrics, and Entrepreneurship in Radiology. Dr. Smith completed a radiology residency and fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Smith divides his time between clinical research and clinical radiology, with expertise in body, oncologic, and aortic imaging, including radiographs, CT, MRI, PET imaging, oncologic imaging, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy.
Dr. Smith’s research expertise is in AI algorithm development, advanced cancer response assessment, and CT imaging biomarkers for cancer response assessment and chronic liver disease. He has multiple U.S. and international patents (pending and issued) related to advancements in radiology. Dr. Smith has been the primary investigator on multiple grants, including NIH small business grants and industry-sponsored grants. He has run multiple retrospective and prospective clinical studies, including several multi-institutional studies, and he has mentored numerous students, residents, fellows, and research scientists and faculty.
At a national level, Dr. Smith is a fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) and Society of Advanced Body Imaging (SABI). He is co-chair of the SAR Emerging Technology Commission on Artificial Intelligence and serves on several committees and panels for academic and clinical societies within the radiology profession including the SAR Disease-Focused Panels on Hepatic Fibrosis and Renal Cell Carcinoma. Smith is active in multiple national organizations and is an editorial member of Radiology and reviewer for numerous national and international academic journals.

Bob Jacobus is a highly experienced early-stage CEO, advisor, and investor. His professional background includes mechanical engineering within the biotech industry. He also served as an international missionary. In investment banking roles over the last 15 years, Mr. Jacobus has successfully raised capital for companies ranging from early-stage biotech to S&P 500 members, structured complex financial transactions, and advised companies on strategic and financial matters.
Mr. Jacobus earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Colorado, an MBA from the University of Denver, master’s degree in finance from the University of Alabama, and has held the CFA® designation since 2000.
Paige Severino graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and a minor in neuroengineering. She was a member of the Science and Technology Honors College and was named a 2019 UAB Student Innovator of the Year finalist.
Ms. Severino has extensive experience in customer discovery, opportunity and market analyses, and business strategy, gained through internships and participation in the UAB Commercialization Accelerator and NIH-funded iCorps programs. Additionally, she has experience in research and development, academic-industrial partnerships, intellectual property, and technical writing within the context of clinical innovations arising from academic medical centers.
Balaji Ganeshan, PhD

Balaji Ganeshan has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Sussex and is co-inventor of pioneering Radiomics applications based on texture analysis with AI & machine learning. He has co-founded two UK-based innovative medical imaging technology companies - TexRAD Ltd and StoneChecker Software Ltd in the area of precision medicine in cancer and kidney stone patient evaluation from radiological scans. Both the companies were acquired into two LSE listed companies.
Dr. Ganeshan is a Senior Medical Imaging Scientist at University College London. His work has resulted in international patents and is highly published through 100+ contributions in high impact journals, international conference presentations and keynote lectures.
Dr. Ganeshan has global experience working with stakeholders across the commercialization value chain, including R&D teams, the C-suite, sales and purchasing. Balaji has established a global distribution agreement with major OEMs and has achieved commercial deployment for TexRAD in 70+ prolific University/Government and Private hospitals and imaging centers in the USA, UK (NHS), EU, Australia, India, China, South-Korea, Singapore, Japan, HK.
